Magdalena's done it all including development, marketing and partnership roles for cultural organisations such as the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales.
In Tasmania she has been the Director of Creative Partnerships Australia and event marketer for Tourism Tasmania. She delivered projects in the cultural policy and research area for State Government and for cultural organisation, Detached (located in the old Mercury building, Macquarie St, Hobart). Although you probably know her as the voice of Nina in Blue Rocket’s animation Pixel Pinkie.
Magdalena currently works for the Menzies Institute for Medical Research she manages the philanthropy and advancement team and campaigns.
Interview with Magdalena Lane:
MyState has played such an important role in nurturing the creativity of young people in Tasmania through the Film Festival. With a background in the cultural and creative industries, it’s an absolute joy to be involved in an initiative that is state wide, so well organised and that encourages creativity and best practise filmmaking.
I love that the Festival brings together a corporate organisations, schools, parents and whole community around creativity and storytelling.
The well-considered judging packs that include wine and snacks are a welcome added incentive too!
Without a doubt the “out of the box” ideas, thinking and creativity. I particularly love seeing this in the younger categories where the thoughts and ideas are so unfiltered!
For me personally, it seems the more unique and surreal the better! So an absolute stand out for me was Get Smarter from Tasman District School.
An engaging character goes a long way too, like Blanche Onions with her phobia of mirrors.
A unique and imaginative idea or stylistic approach. The technical aspects are important but in this age group, I’m really looking for a unique and intriguing concept or idea that really grabs my attention.
There seems to have been a shift away from “quantity” to “quality” in terms of the entries from some schools. And the technical aspects of filmmaking have seemed to improve over the years.
To take their creative thinking and apply it to as many aspects of their life as they can! Creative thinkers are needed across so many industries, roles and so I would encourage creative thinking beyond and outside of just filmmaking.
